Essex is just a short drive from London but can offers a striking contrast to it's metropolitan neighbour. Essex has a long coast that is probably best known for the seaside resorts of Clacton-on-Sea and Southend-on-Sea. Both of these resorts have long beaches with traditional piers and rides. They also have the family attractions that you expect at the seaside.
However, the Essex Coast has more to offer than Clacton and Southend. Walton-on-the-Naze and Frinton-on-Sea are also seaside towns but offer a quieter more relaxed atmosphere to visitors. The small town of Maldon is renowned for it's sea salt and is also a nice place to visit.
Other places to visit in Essex include the historic town of Colchester which has a Zoo that is bound to entertain the children. Further inland to the north of Essex is the beginning of Constable country, where the famous artist John Constable painted his beautiful rural landscapes.
Most of the holiday parks are centred around Clacton and Mersea island. Click on the park name to view the details.
